More: Alexandra, a doctor in the city of Quito, acquired Finca la Merced 23 years ago. She wanted to be in a place where she could admire nature, take a rest from the city, and escape from the daily routine. Back then, this region was isolated and had no access to public health, so Alexandra would travel to the farm to offer community service to the children and communities of the region. Now, every weekend she takes movies to see with the workers of the farm and their children.
At first, Alexandra dedicated her farm to cattle raising to make it productive in some way. However, In 2012, Alexandra traveled to Colombia and she noticed that the climatic conditions in the coffee growing areas were very similar to her farm’s, so she came back to Ecuador to start producing coffee. She has learned to be careful and efficient in the coffee production, and her husband Fernando helps her with the management of the farm. Her plans are to someday retire from the medicine world and move to her farm to dedicate full-time to her coffee trees.
